We discussed designing a program for ED/Behavioral Issues students.  This would be a new special ed. program proposed for ‘10-’11.  Staffing would consist of one teacher, two TA’s and a social worker  for 6-8 students.  Mainstream teachers would agree to be a part of the program.  Students and parents would sign a contract and students would have a functional behavioral plan.  Community service would be mandatory.  Classes would be self contained as well as mainstreamed.  All psychological evaluations would have to be within three years.

Criteria:  ED or LD/OHI identified students with severe behaviors such as defiance, no respect for authority, constant drama, attraction to violence, erratic behavior, explosive personality, delusional or chronic lying.

What we still need to work on:  finding space, preferably off campus, money

Accomplishments this year:  visited LEAP, a BOCES GED program, the Mohonasen/Schalmont GED program and the Bethlehem GED program

Future extensions for this study group:  none without monetary commitment from the district

We also explored the idea of adding a special ed. teacher to the FOCUS program, so that identified students could be part of their program.
